Apple Podcasts
In this project, I set out to redesign the Apple Podcasts app — Apple’s native platform for discovering, subscribing to, and listening to podcasts. While it’s a powerful app and one of my personal favourites, it feels busy, convoluted, and weighed down by legacy design elements that haven’t been revisited in a while.
By taking it through a structured redesign
process, I believe it can become clearer, more intuitive, and more usable, ultimately delivering a better experience for listeners, encouraging higher engagement, and creating a cleaner foundation for future innovation.
🧰 The Approach Taken
Below is an explanation of the approach I have taken.
Step 1 —Map the product
Break it down into its core building blocks: tabs, features, flows.
Step 2 – Keep or cut
Decide what stays, what goes, what’s essential, what’s not.
Step 3 – Restructure
Rebuild what remains into a cleaner, smarter layout.
Step 4 – Add (if needed)
Introduce new features only where they clearly add value
Repeat the cycle
Keep going until nothing’s missing, everything fits, and the product feels right.
The Power of AI
What once took months now takes hours. In this series the goal wasn’t perfection—it was momentum. I wanted to get somewhere useful, fast and to explore the way AI can amplify product thinking, research, and design.

What was done
Below is a summary of what we have done.
Step 1 —Map the product
We broke the product down to building bocks.
Step 2 – Keep or cut
We identified what users value and use and prioritised accordingly.
Step 3 – Restructure
We reorganised, the screens, merging and splitting building blocks as we go.
Step 4 – Add (if needed)
We introduced a new feature set (stats)
to accompany the app.
Repeat the cycle
We kept going until nothing’s missing, everything fits, and the product feels right.
Note
There are a few elements we left out that we would add with more time.
The first is the user profile of course.
The second is the ability to download and view downloaded episodes.
The third is the ability to view recommended episodes.
